About The Emotion Code®
-
The Emotion Code® is an energy healing modality developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson that focuses on identifying and releasing trapped emotional energies that may contribute to emotional, physical, or energetic imbalances.
The Emotion Code uses a form of biofeedback called muscle testing, also known as applied kinesiology, to communicate with the subconscious mind and identify trapped emotions that are ready to be released.
Many people seek The Emotion Code to support emotional, physical, and energetic balance as part of their overall wellness journey. It is intended to complement—not replace appropriate medical or mental health care.
-
According to The Emotion Code®, a trapped emotion is a ball of emotional energy that may become lodged in the body after an emotionally charged experience. Trapped emotions represent unresolved emotional experiences, or "emotional baggage," that were never fully processed.
The Emotion Code teaches that trapped emotions may form when an emotion is too intense to be fully processed in the moment or when a person is unable to fully work through an emotional experience. Rather than being released naturally, the emotional energy may remain trapped in the body.
These trapped emotions may contribute to emotional, physical, or energetic imbalances. During a session, trapped emotions are identified through muscle testing and released to support greater balance and well-being.
-
According to The Emotion Code®, a Heart-Wall® is a protective barrier of trapped emotional energies that may form around the heart following emotionally difficult or traumatic experiences. The Emotion Code teaches that the subconscious mind creates a Heart-Wall as a form of emotional protection, helping a person cope with pain, heartbreak, grief, or other challenging life events.
According to Dr. Bradley Nelson, most adults have a Heart-Wall, while younger children are less likely to have formed one. While a Heart-Wall may serve a protective purpose, The Emotion Code teaches that it may also contribute to feeling emotionally guarded, disconnected, or less open to giving and receiving love.
During a session, muscle testing is used to determine whether a Heart-Wall is present and whether the subconscious mind is ready to release the trapped emotions that make it up. A Heart-Wall is released one layer at a time, and according to The Emotion Code, many people are able to completely release their Heart-Wall in approximately four to five sessions. However, some individuals with particularly dense Heart-Walls may require additional sessions.
The Emotion Code also teaches that once a Heart-Wall has been completely released, it does not last forever. As we continue to experience life's challenges, new trapped emotions may accumulate if they are not fully processed, and over time a new Heart-Wall may begin to form.
-
Muscle testing, also known as applied kinesiology, is a form of biofeedback used in The Emotion Code® to receive yes-or-no responses from the subconscious mind.
In an Emotion Code session, muscle testing is used to help identify trapped emotions and determine whether they are ready to be released. Rather than relying on conscious memory or detailed personal information, the practitioner uses muscle testing to ask focused questions and follow the body’s responses.
Muscle testing does not depend on physical strength. It is simply used as a way to gather information from the subconscious mind within the framework of The Emotion Code. For remote sessions, this can also be done by proxy, allowing the practitioner to muscle test on behalf of the client with permission.
-
According to The Emotion Code®, magnets are used because trapped emotions are believed to be made of energy. The Emotion Code teaches that a magnet's energy can help release these trapped emotional energies by swiping it over the body's governing meridian, which runs from the upper lip over the head to the tailbone.
Dr. Bradley Nelson teaches that magnets are not "pulling" trapped emotions out of the body. Rather, they are used as a source of healing energy to help facilitate the release once the subconscious mind has identified a trapped emotion that is ready to be released.
The Emotion Code teaches that even a simple refrigerator magnet contains enough magnetic energy to perform a release. He also teaches that the human body naturally produces its own magnetic field, and that using your hand in place of a magnet is also effective. While many practitioners—including myself—prefer to use a magnet, either method may be used within the framework of The Emotion Code.
During remote sessions, the practitioner uses a magnet on themselves while acting as a proxy for the client.
-
Yes. According to The Emotion Code®, sessions may be performed in person or remotely. The Emotion Code teaches that because energy is not limited by physical distance, muscle testing and the release of trapped emotions can be performed just as effectively whether a client is in the same room or located anywhere in the world.
During a remote session, I use proxy testing, which means I act as a stand-in for you with your permission while communicating with your subconscious mind through muscle testing. No matter where you are located, the session follows the same process as an in-person session.
Remote sessions can be conducted by phone, Zoom, or email. While the format may differ, the process of identifying and releasing trapped emotions remains the same.
At Release and Rise Wellness, I currently offer remote sessions by phone, Zoom, and email. Because my practice is fully remote, I'm able to work with clients no matter where they are located.
-
Every session is unique. In my experience, most 30-minute sessions result in the release of approximately 8–10 trapped emotions, although sometimes more or fewer may be released.
The Emotion Code® teaches that the subconscious mind determines what is appropriate to release during each session. Throughout the session, I periodically ask whether it is appropriate to continue or whether enough has been released for that day. Sometimes the subconscious mind indicates that additional trapped emotions are ready to be released, while other times it indicates that it is time to stop.
The goal is not to release as many trapped emotions as possible in a single session. Rather, the goal is to release what your subconscious mind determines is appropriate while allowing your body time to integrate each release.
For this reason, I generally recommend allowing at least 24 hours, and sometimes a few days between sessions so your body has time to fully integrate the changes before beginning another session.
-
According to The Emotion Code®, once a trapped emotion has been released, it does not become trapped again, and that particular emotion can never return. The release is considered permanent.
However, new similar trapped emotions may form over time as we continue to experience life's challenges. If an emotional experience is not fully processed, a new trapped emotion may develop. Likewise, if a Heart-Wall® has been completely released, The Emotion Code teaches that a new Heart-Wall may eventually form if enough new trapped emotions accumulate around the heart.
Because life is constantly changing, many people choose to have periodic Emotion Code sessions as part of their ongoing wellness routine, while others schedule sessions only when they feel they need additional support.
-
No. The Emotion Code® is intended to complement, not replace appropriate medical, mental health, or veterinary care.
While many people choose The Emotion Code to support their overall well-being, it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. Likewise, sessions for animals are not a substitute for evaluation or treatment by a licensed veterinarian.
If you or your animal have a medical or mental health concern, it is important to seek appropriate care from a qualified healthcare professional or veterinarian.
About Sessions
-
Every Emotion Code® session begins by identifying your wellness goals or the area you would like to focus on. You do not need to share personal details or revisit painful experiences unless you choose to.
Using muscle testing, I communicate with your subconscious mind to identify trapped emotions that are ready to be released that are related to the area of focus for your session. Throughout the session, I follow the guidance of your subconscious mind, releasing only what it indicates is appropriate.
After every session—whether by phone, Zoom, or email—you'll receive a detailed written report outlining the trapped emotions that were released, along with descriptions, integration suggestions, and affirmations to support your continued wellness journey.
-
No. While you're welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable, it isn't necessary to discuss personal details for an Emotion Code® session to be effective. Sessions are guided through muscle testing and proxy testing rather than traditional talk therapy.
Some clients enjoy sharing memories, emotions, or life experiences that relate to what comes up in a session, while others prefer a more private approach. Although additional context can help me write a more personalized and detailed session report, it is completely optional. I can still facilitate an effective session and provide a thorough report using the information uncovered during the session through muscle testing, along with any information you choose to share.
My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment that respects your comfort level and personal boundaries.
-
All three session formats provide the same personalized care and attention, and the Emotion Code® process is the same regardless of which communication method you choose. Every session includes a detailed written report outlining the trapped emotions that were released, along with descriptions, personalized integration suggestions, and affirmations to support your continued wellness journey.
The main difference is simply how you'd prefer to connect. Phone is a great choice if you enjoy a relaxed, conversational experience without being on camera. Zoom is ideal if you'd like to meet face-to-face and appreciate the added connection of seeing each other during your session. Email is perfect if you enjoy taking your time to reflect, prefer communicating in writing, have a busy schedule, or live in a different time zone. It also allows you to communicate at your own pace, whenever you’re available without needing to schedule a live conversation.
You'll book your session first, then choose your preferred communication format during the booking process. You're always welcome to choose a different format for future sessions based on your preferences, schedule, or the focus of the session.
-
It depends on the session format you choose. If you schedule a phone or Zoom session, you'll be present for your appointment so we can discuss your wellness goals and complete the session together. If you choose an email session, you do not need to be present while I complete the session.
Regardless of the format you choose, the Emotion Code process remains the same. Every session is performed using proxy testing, and every client receives the same personalized care, attention, and detailed written session report.
Some clients enjoy the connection and opportunity to share their insight and ask questions during a live phone or Zoom session, while others appreciate the flexibility and convenience of an email session. The choice is entirely based on your personal preferences and schedule.
-
Yes. The Emotion Code® may be used with children of all ages with the permission of a parent or legal guardian. Sessions for children are performed by proxy, meaning I act as a stand-in for your child while communicating with their subconscious mind through muscle testing.
Children do not need to be present or actively participate during the session. However, a parent or legal guardian should be available for the scheduled session, regardless of whether you choose a phone, Zoom, or email appointment.
Because The Emotion Code does not rely on traditional talk therapy, children do not need to describe their emotions or discuss difficult experiences for a session to take place. This gentle approach can be especially helpful for children who are too young to communicate their feelings or who may have difficulty expressing themselves.
Parents seek Emotion Code sessions for a variety of reasons, including emotional well-being, life transitions, stress, behavioral concerns, or simply to support their child's overall wellness. Every child is unique, and each session is guided by what the subconscious mind determines is appropriate to release.
As with all Emotion Code sessions, work with children is intended to complement, not replace appropriate medical or mental health care.
-
Yes. The Emotion Code® may be used with animals of all kinds with the permission of their owner or legal guardian. Sessions for animals are performed by proxy, meaning I act as a stand-in for your animal while communicating with their subconscious mind through muscle testing.
Your animal does not need to be present during the session. However, the owner or legal guardian should be available for the scheduled session, regardless of whether you choose a phone, Zoom, or email appointment.
According to The Emotion Code, animals can also develop trapped emotions from emotionally significant experiences. Like people, animals experience a wide range of emotions, and The Emotion Code teaches that unresolved emotional energies may contribute to emotional, behavioral, physical, or energetic imbalances.
Because animals cannot verbally communicate their emotions or experiences, The Emotion Code can provide a gentle way to identify and release trapped emotions that may be contributing to emotional, behavioral, physical, or energetic imbalances. Owners seek Emotion Code sessions for a variety of reasons, including behavioral changes, life transitions, emotional stress, or simply to support their animal's overall well-being. Every animal is unique, and each session is guided by what the subconscious mind determines is appropriate to release.
As with all Emotion Code sessions, work with animals is intended to complement, not replace appropriate veterinary care.
-
The number of Emotion Code® sessions needed varies from person to person and depends on your wellness goals, life experiences, and the issues being addressed. Some concerns may require only one or two sessions, while more complex or long-standing issues may benefit from additional work.
Many clients notice meaningful shifts after a single session, and it is often possible to reduce the severity of a concern during one appointment. However, because every individual is unique, there is no predetermined number of sessions that's right for everyone.
If we're working on a Heart-Wall®, it typically takes approximately four to five sessions to fully release, although some Heart-Walls may require additional sessions. Throughout your care, I can use muscle testing to assess your progress, measure the severity of a concern, and help determine whether additional sessions may be beneficial.
Every session builds on the previous one, and any recommendations I make are based on your individual needs, wellness goals, and what your subconscious mind determines is appropriate to release.
-
Every person responds differently to an Emotion Code® session. Some clients report feeling lighter, calmer, more balanced, or emotionally relieved following a session. Others notice shifts in their thoughts, emotions, relationships, behaviors, or overall sense of well-being in the days and weeks that follow. Some experience improvements in areas of life that were connected to the trapped emotions that were released.
Occasionally, clients experience temporary emotional or physical responses as the body integrates the work. This may include increased awareness of emotions, memories, or insights related to the trapped emotions that were released. Some people also experience mild tiredness or fatigue, while others notice temporary physical or emotional shifts as their body processes the releases. These experiences are typically temporary and vary from person to person.
Integration looks different for everyone. Some people notice changes almost immediately, while for others the shifts are more gradual. It's also common to recognize subtle improvements only after reflecting on how you felt before the session or noticing positive changes in your daily life over time.
To support the integration process, I generally recommend staying well hydrated, getting adequate rest, and following any personalized self-care or integration suggestions included in your session report. I also recommend allowing at least 24 hours, and often a few days between sessions so your body has time to fully integrate the releases before beginning another session.
If you have any questions or unexpected concerns following your session, you're always welcome to reach out. I'm happy to support you throughout the integration process.
-
Every Release and Rise Wellness Emotion Code® session includes a detailed written report, regardless of whether you choose a phone, Zoom, or email session. My goal is for you to leave each session with a clear understanding of the work that was completed and a resource you can refer back to anytime.
Your report includes the trapped emotions that were released, descriptions of each trapped emotion, and any additional information uncovered during the session through muscle testing. When relevant, this may include details such as the age a trapped emotion became lodged or whether it was inherited, absorbed, shared, prenatal, or developed during another significant life stage.
Each report also includes personalized integration suggestions to support your continued wellness journey following the session.
No two reports are exactly alike. Every report is personalized based on your unique session, the information uncovered through muscle testing, and any information you choose to share with me. Many clients continue referring back to their reports long after their session, making them a valuable resource for reflection and personal growth.
